Light to Light Walk: update March 2023

Work on the walking tracks is commencing.

Walking track works to commence

The upgraded Light to Light Walk will support visitors to undertake an immersive nature-based, multi-day walk that highlights the many special characteristics of the NSW Far South Coast, including remoteness, coastal connection and cultural heritage.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has engaged local business Creative Lines to deliver the Light to Light Walk track works. The track works are designed to enhance the walking experience and increase visitor appreciation and engagement with the conservation values of the park.

Creative Lines will:

  • upgrade and realign sections of the current track
  • repair tracks damaged by bushfire and storms
  • construct new sections of the walk
  • close and revegetation sections of track no longer required.

This walk is part of the national parks network of 13 NSW Great Walks delivering world-class bushwalking experiences for visitors.

Stages of walking track delivery

Work on the walking track will start in late March 2023 and is anticipated to be completed by early 2024. Extended periods of rain or storms could cause the completion date to be delayed.

Leather Jacket Bay to Mowarry Point – will be closed throughout April 2023 while work is done to fix and realign the track. Walkers can use the Mowarry Point Trail to divert around the track closure and continue the walk through to Saltwater Creek and Green Cape.

The next stage of track closures is yet to be finalised; however, we anticipate that the next section of works will formalise some new alignments from Pulpit Rock car park to Green Cape.

Track closures – you can view details of upcoming and active closures on the National Parks and Wildlife Service website.
