Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the Widjabul Wia-bal and Minjungbal people of the Bundjalung nation, the traditional owners and custodians of the ancient lands through which this walk passes.
We acknowledge their continued connection to their land, waters, and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and to their cultures, traditions and spiritual beliefs.
The completion of major components of the Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk has allowed the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service to open some sections of the walking track and 2 of the remote camps.
Construction of ‘Day 2’, the most challenging section of the walk, continues, with completion expected in early 2025.
Opening of Weeun Weeun and Yelgun Kyoomgun camps in Nightcap National Park
Along the Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk, 2 of the 3 remote walk-in camps have been completed. Yelgun Kyoomgun and Weeun Weeun camps in Nightcap National Park are opening on 27 September and will offer a taster of the full walk experience.
As an interim ‘taster’ experience, the camps can be comfortably reached from Rummery Park in a day. Bookings can be made online. Please note these camps will only be available as part of a 3-night/4-day experience once the full Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk opens in early 2025.

Opening of new day walks
Also opening on 27 September is Byan Yangala, a new 6.5 km loop walk starting from Rummery Park campground in Whian Whian State Conservation Area.
Soon to follow in early October will be Whiskey Creek walk in Mount Jerusalem National Park. This walk features a spectacular rainforest gully.

Expression of interest for tourism operators
The National Parks and Wildlife Service will be seeking expressions of interest in October 2024 for suitably qualified operators to deliver visitor services and experiences on the Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk. This will include:
- guided multi-day walking tours
- guided day tours
- a transport service for self-guided multi day walkers.
Work continues on ‘Day 2’
Track workers are progressing with construction of the ‘Day 2’ section of the Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk. Day 2 will be the most challenging section for walkers, ascending a total of 800 m and descending 550 m over 15 km from Camp 1 to Yelgun Kyoomgun (Camp 2).
Multiple helicopter lifts of stone, equipment and other materials have allowed over 350 steps to be installed on the northern side of Mount Jerusalem.
