Renew your assessor accreditation

Renewing accreditation

  • The Biodiversity Assessment Method accreditation term is generally 3 years.
  • Your accreditation expiry date is listed on your accreditation certificate, on the Public Register of Accredited Assessors and in your Biodiversity Offsets and Agreements Management System account.
  • Your name will not show on the public register if your accreditation expiry date has passed.
  • If your accreditation has expired, you cannot certify or submit Biodiversity Assessment Reports.
  • You can still apply to renew in the 3 months following your expiry date. This time is called your grace period.
  • There is no fee to apply for renewal. However, there is an accreditation term fee if your renewal application is approved (see below).

Please contact us if you have personal circumstances requiring consideration about your renewal's timing.

To renew your accreditation, you will need to:

  1. attend renewal training
  2. submit a completed application form including:
    1. a signed code of conduct and fit and proper person declaration
    2. a continuing professional development log that meets the specified minimum requirement once your application is approved
  3. pay your accreditation term fee once your application is approved. See Scheme fees.

Accreditation remains expired during grace periods

It is important to note that during any grace period, accreditation remains expired until it is renewed. During the grace period you cannot certify any Biodiversity Assessment Report. You can still access the Biodiversity Offsets and Agreements Management System and the Biodiversity Assessment Method Calculator. Access is removed at the end of the 3-month period.

You will not be able to apply for renewal after the 3-month grace period has passed.

Continuing professional development

As an accredited assessor, you must complete a continuing professional development log to demonstrate your:

  • continued engagement with the Biodiversity Assessment Method
  • maintenance of technical skills.

Continuing professional development in the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme supports continuous improvement in the application of the Biodiversity Assessment Method by all participants.

Accredited Assessor Continuing Professional Development Log Guideline

The Accredited Assessor Continuing Professional Development Log Guideline describes how assessors should address continuing professional development. Assessors are strongly encouraged to read the guideline to help them understand how to address and record their continuing professional development.

You must record your annual continuing professional development in the Log template [DOCX 123 KB]. We recommend recording your activities during your accreditation term.

An alternative approach to recording continuing professional development is available in limited circumstances. This may apply to you if:

  • you are active in the Biodiversity Assessment Method and Biodiversity Offsets Scheme, and
  • your work does not precisely fit the annual activity continuing professional development requirements.

Please refer to section 6 of the Accredited Assessor Continuing Professional Development Log Guideline for further information. If you wish to request an alternative approach, please use the Continuing Professional Development Request for consideration form [PDF 127 KB].
